While Living with Manic Depression

“Embracing Bipolar – Restoring Hope”
Welcome! I have chosen “Embracing Bipolar – Restoring Hope” as my personal mantra … one you may find strange if you’ve recently been diagnosed with a mood disorder.
I have come to believe, however, that bipolar disorder is a manageable and treatable medical condition, and a diagnosis does not signify a limit to your potential to embrace every facet of life experiences…including starting a family!
For many people, entering a loving relationship, deciding to have children, and raising a family together is part of the cycle of life. But what if one of the partners is a woman who is affected with bipolar disorder? What if her doctors recommend she reduce, change, or even go off all medication to have children?
I was faced with these concerns and many more, and discovered that there weren’t any resources that addressed these important issues. “Bipolar and Pregnant: How to Manage and Succeed in Planning and Parenting While Living with Manic Depression” was written to help women by compiling the advice of a geneticist, psychiatrist, psychologist, gynecologist, and also the parents-to-be. This book is the first to share techniques and insights, from preconception through postpartum, written by someone who lives with a medical condition, particularly bipolar disorder. This information is not just for women with mood disorders but also for her entire support team.
My most sincere wish, and the motivation that fueled the years of effort behind this book, is that the reader will come to both embrace this disorder and feel a renewed sense of hope for all the future holds.
